Small Awards celebrates best in British business

Marylebone’s St Mary’s Church welcomed 200 guests on Thursday evening for a night of celebration and inspiration at the second annual Small Awards.

Amongst the judges were Small Business Commissioner Paul Uppal and Seven Hills co-founder Michael Hayman MBE, with the evening hosted by serial entrepreneur Jason Allan Scott.

Founded last year by Michelle Ovens MBE, Director of Peak B and Small Business Saturday, ‘The Smalls’ crowned 11 small businesses which highlight the vibrancy of the UK’s SME sector.

Awards were handed out to inspiring small businesses in categories including ‘Digital Star’, ‘High Street Hero’, ‘Heart of Gold’ and ‘New Kid On The Block’ – which went to Paris Hilton favourite Owen Drew Luxury Candles.

Winners came from all corners of the UK, with long-serving Manchester institution Afflecks, Northern Irish exporters Total-Hockey.com and Cornish business lenders FOLK2FOLK amongst those to take home a prize.

Michael Hayman presented the ‘At Your Service’ award to Peterborough-based salon, Serenity Loves, who also took home the Small Business of the Year 2018 gong.

Serenity Loves owner Jo Bevilacqua, who operate with a unique on-site crèche said: “since opening in 2012 we have grown each year, giving much-needed freedom, timeout and flexibility for parents.

“Winning a Small Award will give the team a real boost and hopefully give us the confidence to open a much-needed second salon.”

Michelle Ovens said: “we are proud to put vibrant, dynamic and exciting businesses across the UK in the spotlight.”
