British Innovation: University of Sheffield drives Industrial Strategy with report launch

Business Secretary Greg Clark joined Juergen Maier, Lord Heseltine and David Willetts at the Resolution Foundation on Wednesday for the launch of the Industrial Strategy Commission’s final report.

The Commission was chaired by Dame Kate Barker, a former member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee, and compiled by senior specialist academics at the University of Manchester and the University of Sheffield.

The Industrial Strategy Commission’s report shone a spotlight onto the UK’s innovative future and the launch of the report marks a critical moment ahead of the publication of the Government’s Industrial Strategy White Paper.

The Business Secretary welcomed the report, promising that ‘many themes’ of the ‘rigorous and well-researched’ report would be incorporated into Government policy.

The report represents the University of Sheffield’s latest contribution to the Industrial Strategy debate following a number of landmark reports and interventions on higher vocational education and the impact of innovation on economic productivity.

Supported by Seven Hills, the launch of the report was covered by The Daily Telegraph, The Times, The Guardian, The Independent, BBC Radio 4’s Today and Bloomberg TV.
