finncap reveals what it takes to make it in 2018

“Perseverance, tenacity and a clear direction for your business,” replied PureGym CFO Adam Bellamy when asked for the characteristics that a business needs to win today. He was on stage as part of a panel at finnCap’s Ambition Nation Summit.

Hosted by the No.1 AIM broker and top-5 LSE adviser, the event saw entrepreneurs and business leaders share their advice and insight on what makes an ambitious company succeed. Speakers included BGF CEO Stephen Welton, CybSafe CEO Oz Alashe MBE and Blippar co-founder Jess Butcher MBE.

Planet Organic founder Renée Elliott put the emphasis on purpose, calling it the must-have ‘DNA’ of any successful business, while COOK founder Edward Perry said that by creating something bigger than just the pursuit of commercial growth, leaders can expect their teams to get behind everything the business does.

A session on future innovation featured The Big Innovation Centre’s Professor Birgitte Anderson speaking alongside Imam Hoque from data company Quantexa and Tom Walace, partner at law firm K&L Gates. Acknowledging the disruption that technology has become known for, Tom said, “We trust algorithms and AI to find our perfect match and drive our cars. It won’t be long before it’s doing large amounts of my job.”

Ambition Nation is the finnCap initiative launched in November 2017, to drive debate and highlight best practices for unlocking the potential of the UK’s fast growth businesses and ambitious entrepreneurs.
