innovate finance global summit confirms london as centre of the fintech world

The annual Innovate Finance Global Summit (IFGS) took place at London’s historic Guildhall for its fifth edition this week, hosting 2,000 stakeholders within the financial services sector and providing the chance to see cutting-edge technologies and global leaders in action.

This was the fifth consecutive edition that Seven Hills has supported since the launch of the Innovate Finance Global Summit in 2015.

Kicking off UK Fintech Week, the two-day event featured keynote addresses from Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond and Governor of the Bank of England Mark Carney, alongside hundreds of the leading figures in international FinTech.

The Chancellor restated the government’s support for the growth of fintech in the UK, and maintaining London’s position as a leading fintech hub. He also launched the FinTech Alliance, an organisation designed to bring together the UK’s and the global FinTech sector through one online destination, and praised Innovate Finance’s new initiative for creating a new diverse pool of fintech talent, FinTech for Schools.

Amongst those taking to the stage to share their expertise were Innovate Finance CEO, Charlotte Crosswell, London Stock Exchange plc CEO, Nikhil Rathi, Deputy CEO at NatWest Holdings, Alison Rose, Tech London Advocates founder, Russ Shaw, Blenheim Chalcot managing partner, Dan Cobley, and Starling Bank founder, Anne Boden.

Meanwhile panel discussions across three stages tackled topics such as fintech’s role in addressing financial inclusion and inspiring the next generation of fintech talent.

The summit wrapped-up with the annual Pitch 360 competition, hosted by Edie Lush. Across eight categories, start-ups pitched their products and businesses in three minutes presentations. Each category had a dedicated winner chosen by the IFGS audience, and the overall winner, next generation instant messaging platform, Novastone, was chosen by a panel of esteemed judges.

Innovate Finance is an independent membership association that represents the UK’s global FinTech community. Founded in 2014 and supported by the City of London and Broadgate, Innovate Finance is a not-for-profit that advances the country’s leading position in the financial services sector by supporting the next generation of technology-led financial services innovators.
