Michael Hayman at Leap Debate

investment community convenes to discuss valuations

On 5th November, Mishcon de Reya hosted the fourth event in The Leap series: Driving up Valuations.

With £1.4bn having been invested in the UK’s tech sector this year, a tenfold increase on five years ago, it is clear there has been a sea change in how the value of businesses is calculated and considered.

Convening an audience of founders, shareholders and the investment community, Michael Hayman chaired an expert panel to discuss whether the figures match the facts on the ground.

Former Dragon and founder of Outsourcery, Piers Linney shared his insights from both sides of the table: as entrepreneur and investor. He gave his advice to those considering investment, commenting that it is a very positive climate currently for young companies and start-ups.

Jude Ower, founder of Playmob which she created in 2007, with the goal of raising $1bn for charitable causes through play, gave her views on the successful founder/ investor relationship emphasising that transparency is key.
