Launching Sister: A New Chapter for Manchester’s Innovation District

Seven Hills proudly supported the launch of Sister, Manchester’s science and technology innovation district, at an event in the heart of the city.

Hosted by BBC’s Geeta Guru Murthy, the launch brought together Manchester’s most influential figures, including Mayor Andy Burnham, Manchester City Council Leader Bev Craig, Vice Chancellor of the University of Manchester Duncan Ivison, and Chris Oglesby, CEO of Bruntwood.

A joint venture between The University of Manchester and Bruntwood SciTech, Sister will transform the University’s former North campus into a 4-million-square-foot innovation hub.

The name reflects the project’s focus on fostering connections between academia and industry, creating a collaborative environment for businesses in sectors like biotechnology, digital tech, and health innovation.

The Renold Building – the first to open on the Sister site, having been repurposed from a former university building – provided the perfect setting for the occasion. With nearly 200 guests in attendance, the event saw Sister officially introduced, accompanied by a manifesto video outlining the brand’s goals. Early media coverage included an exclusive feature in The Times, with more expected from Reuters and Politico.

The brand made its social media debut at midnight, and the results were immediate, with Sister gaining over 300 new LinkedIn followers within hours, alongside a surge of positive engagement and feedback.

Here’s to what’s next for Sister!
