The second instalment of Here East’s ‘Future Talks’ series brought together more than 150 guests to explore the topic of whether AI is a “Friend or Foe”.
The afternoon began with a small roundtable discussion, which included representatives from organisations including Mesh.ai, the Royal Opera House, and Beamery. The conversation was expertly moderated by Flavilla Fongang, the founder of 3ColoursRule. The participants delved into the potential challenges that AI poses, examining its impact on various sectors and industries.
This discussion teed up the larger open evening event, where over 150 guests arrived for stage content and a networking reception. Gavin Poole, CEO of Here East, opened the event and introduced the keynote speaker, Charlie Muirhead, CEO of CogX. Charlie provided a roadmap of the threats and challenges associated with AI, offering valuable insights and kicking off the evening’s conversation.
Flavilla then took the stage to moderate a captivating panel discussion featuring Suhair Khan, the chair of Studio Wayne McGregor, and Emma Wright, the Head of Technology, Data & Digital at Harbottle & Greaves. The panellists emphasised the significance of education and regulation in the AI field – to ensure that AI remains a friend rather than a foe.
The event concluded with a fireside chat featuring Michael Stein, the CEO of Framestore, moderated by Jimmy McLoughlin OBE. Michael shared his experiences and highlighted the crucial role that AI plays in the creation of blockbuster movies. He also showcased Framestore’s impressive work with the Kiyan Prince Foundation, bringing attention to its remarkable contributions to tackle knife crime and inspire the next generation.
